Tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) are a subset of myeloid-derived immune cells that cause immunosuppression in a tumor microenvironment. TAMS produce cytokines, chemical messengers that regulate immune responses, that inhibit the anti-tumor immune response thus promoting tumor growth and development.
