Glycosylation is the event in which a carbohydrate is bonded to a hydroxyl or other reactive functional group. This is most commonly studied in terms of glycosylated proteins. Glycosylation of proteins is one of the most common post-translational modifications in cells. The most common of these are called N or O linked glycosylation.
