Bone marrow disease occurs when stem cells become unable to generate new blood cells. Examples of bone marrow diseases include leukemia, in which the bone marrow makes abnormal white blood cells, aplastic anemia, in which the bone marrow cannot produce new red blood cells, and myeloproliferative disorders, in which the bone marrow overproduces white blood cells.
