If you're interested in
Microbiomes than our new speaker highlight should spark your interest:
Jack A. Gilbert. Dr. Gilbert is an Envrionmental Microbiologist at the Department of Biosciences at the Argonne National Laboratory; an Associate Professor at the University of Chicago Department of Ecology & Evolution and Surgery; and Senior Scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woodshole. If you haven't done so already, head on over to the
Microbiology Virtual Event page and sign up/register to save yourself a spot.
Dr. Gilbert will be discussing how the immune system and the microbiome have shaped each other in extraordinarily elaborate and intricate ways, highlighting the mechanisms of interaction. He'll also be discussing how the last 150 years have started to disturb the delicate balance of the immune-microbe equilibrium. As the immune system continues to refine itself to control our interaction with the microbial world, the fundamental shift in the human lifestyle is likely impacting the development and function of our immune systems in ways that we are just beginning to understand.
For those of you who are interested in seeing Dr. Gilbert speak, you'll be able to catch him on September 2nd at 9:00am Pacific time. Feel free to check out the event agenda to see the various other speakers and topics that will be discussed this year.
