Our Clinical Diagnostics & Research Virtual Event is just two days away and we’re going to highlight two of our keynote speakers! If you haven’t done so already, head on over to the Clinical Diagnostics & Research Virtual Event page and sign up/register to save yourself a spot.

One of our several keynote events is hosted by none other than Dr. Michael Laposata and Dr. Julie Taylor, who will be presenting a keynote titled: Optimizing the Use of Laboratory Testing Services to Improve Patient Diagnosis. During their keynote presentation, they will help to improve the prevention of diagnostic errors to help create a positive impact on patient outcomes.

Generally speaking, diagnostic errors impact millions of adults and children every year. The errors range from failing to ordering an appropriate diagnostic test to incorrect interpretation of diagnostic test results. The Clinical Laboratory Integration into Healthcare Collaborative (CLIHC), with the support of the Division of Laboratory Systems at the CDC, are addressing these diagnostic errors by using several approaches. During the webinar Dr. Laposata and Dr. Taylor will cover the topic and help with the following key learning objectives:

  • Describe the frequency of diagnostic errors and the impact on patient outcomes
  • Discuss healthcare system failures that may contribute to diagnostic errors
  • Identify at least three ways to reduce diagnostic errors
Aside from these key learning objectives, participants will also learn about CLIHC initiatives to identify gaps that exist in laboratory medicine training in medical schools and appraoches being developed to promote appropriate test utilization, such as the use of test algorithms and mobile applications for test selection.

For those of you who are interested in seeing Dr. Laposata and Dr. Taylor's keynote presentation, you’ll be able to catch them on Thursday November 12 at 12:00pm Pacific time. Be sure to check out other speakers that are speaking at the event as well.
