The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has taken a toll on many sectors of the medical community. As the pandemic took a grip on the laboratory, the need for diagnostic testing became clear while many other factors regarding implementation and the future of testing remained in limbo with questions unanswered.
Many laboratorians alongside their clinical colleagues have had to implement solutions for their patients that made the most sense and were the best fit for their institution. This has led to building a laboratory test ordering framework which includes multiple platforms for SARS-CoV-2 testing to co-exist with other respiratory pathogen tests already in place, as the influenza season began to trail off.
Dr. Heba Mostafa and her team have taken a non-conventional approach to guide and build a testing algorithm for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory pathogens at the Johns Hopkins Virology Laboratory. In this webinar, she will detail her experience, early on, in the pandemic for SARS-CoV-2 testing and the considerations taken for using different testing methods. She will also highlight how the implementation of the ePlex Respiratory Pathogen Panel 2 will aid in the screening of 18 respiratory pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2, to further alleviate the burden on the laboratory as the next influenza season approaches, while providing the clinical team and ultimately patients, the results they need in a rapid actionable time frame.
