Are Animals Capable of Deception?

Are animals capable of deception? Of course! Humans, classified as animals in science, are very much deceiving creatures…but how about non-human animals. Well, it’s tricky but behavioral biologists have identified three defining hallmarks of deception by non-human animals: 1) the deception must mislead the receiver 2) the deception must benefit the deceiver 3) the deception cannot be an accidental act.

One example of a deceiving animal is the predatory firefly.
