In simplest terms, food waste is food thrown in the garbage instead of being consumed. There is no use of throwing food and no benefit can come out of it.
However, one greenhouse in the United Kingdom is deciding to lessen the burden of throwing food in the trash by utilizing it as a source of fuel! In other words, food waste can help power greenhouses making it an environmentally conscious method in regards to saving on energy costs.
Wasted fruits and veggies can be processed into a machine that mashes them together into a liquid appearing like an “unpleasant-looking giant smoothie”. The liquid is then pumped through underground concrete tanks where trillions of bacteria can feed on the waste. Ultimately, the “feeding” by the bacteria produces methane gas. The methane gas serves as the “power” for greenhouse fuel.
