Gauging Animal Intelligence is No Easy Task

Researchers are continually attempting to gauge intelligence in animals by putting them through various tests. These tests are designed to recognize intellectual qualities such as logic, reason, and emotion, but are we even looking at the big picture here?

Some experts suggest that these tests are rigged and that we can’t possibly understand animal intelligence by way of such simple trials. After all, intelligence manifests itself in innumerable forms, some of which we have virtually no comprehension of.

This video describes a bevy of situations in which we may be discounting animal intelligence with these so-called “tests.” More importantly, it suggests that animals may be much smarter than we give them credit for, both before and after scientific study.

Indeed, it seems humanity doesn’t know much about animal intelligence at all; and who knows if we ever will.
