Watch SpaceX Test Fire Their Interplanetary Raptor Engine

At the end of September, SpaceX test-fired their Raptor engine, which fires using a chemical combustion process between liquid methane and liquid oxygen rather than the traditional mix of kerosene and liquid oxygen that is found in the Falcon 9 rockets.

The Raptor engine can be used by the Interplanetary Transport System to help human beings get from planet to planet with all of the newfound interest in interplanetary space travel, such as to Mars or the Moon.

The engine was under development from 2009-2015, and this is the first actual test fire of the rocket, which shows off a beautiful display of what SpaceX CEO Elon Musk calls "Mach Diamonds" in the exhaust stream.

A sight to behold, this is the future of space travel and space exploration that might get mankind on another planet besides Earth within the next decade or two.
