Not All Milks in the Animal Kingdom Are Created Equally

WRITTEN BY: Anthony Bouchard

Different animals have different needs in their infantile stages, and with that in mind, it should come as no surprise to anyone that animal milks vary from one species to the next.

While most people are accustomed to the milk that comes from cows, other animals produce different types of milk with alternative properties. As an example, hooded seals produce the fattiest milk in the animal kingdom, sporting a 60% fat content. Comparatively, the richest ice cream in the world only sports a 16% fat content.

Another animal with an extreme type of milk is the tammar wallaby, which purportedly exhibits the highest sugar content of any other milk in the animal kingdom. With a 12% sugar content, a serving of the tammar wallaby’s milk has a higher sugar content than a standard glass of Coca-Cola.

Some animals, such as the aardvark, require more protein than sugar in their infantile stages, and that’s why aardvark milk sports a 13+% protein content. Comparatively, standard milk from a cow only has a 3-4% protein content.

And while cow’s milk is known for supplementing the human diet with calcium, it pales in comparison to armadillo milk, which contains as much as ten times as much calcium as cow milk.

Indeed, the animal kingdom has many different types of milks with varying properties, but you’ll probably want to stick to cow’s milk yourself.
