A tumor bank is a location to store tumor specimens for future research. The specimens collected for storage in a tumor bank are typically removed during therapeutic tumor excision surgeries. Once excised, tumor tissue can be preserved by a variety of methods, including snap freezing and formalin fixation. The method of preservation guides what techniques can be used for future analysis. Non-tumor tissue may be stored in a tumor bank to provide matched control samples for future research.
