Tissue dissociation is a procedure done as party of many experimental protocols carried out in a laboratory. The tissue dissociation process involves breaking down the scaffolding and structural support of tissues needed for cells to survive and thrive. On a cellular level, adherent cell cultures may need to be dissociated to separate the cells from their flask. Tissue dissociation can also be done on biological tissues, like skin, liver, or tumor, in order to breakdown the tissue to a single cell level to be used for other applications. Tissue dissociation typically involves one or more enzymes.
