A puppy is a juvenile animal of the mammalian species Canis familiaris (dog). On average, puppies are born at about 63 days of gestation and they begin to nurse immediately after birth. Puppies are born slightly underdeveloped but, if healthy and properly nourished, grow quickly after birth.
