Orthology describes homologous genetic sequences which are descended from the same ancestral sequence but have separated into two distinct species. Orthologs are the orthologous genes found in different species that can be traced to a common ancestor. The process by which a single species diverges into two species is known as speciation.

Alphaviruses are enveloped RNA viruses that cause disease in humans ranging from acute febrile illness with rash and arthritis to lethal encephalitis. Like many other mosquito-borne viruses,...
The complete assembly of each human chromosome is essential for understanding human biology and evolution. Using complementary long-read sequencing technologies, we complete the first linear...
Learning Objectives: 1. Using an optics- and label-free approach to CRISPR research 2. Explain current approaches to selecting the most robust gRNA for CRISPR assays 3. The opportunities tha...
In this webinar, we will discuss our most recent additions to our CRISPR protein portfolio, the GFP-SpCas9 and GFP-eCas9 fusion proteins. The two GFP-Cas9 fusion proteins offer great visualiz...
Neuronal migration defects, including pachygyria, are among the most severe developmental brain defects in humans. Using human genetics approaches, we recently identified bi-allelic truncatin...

Many computational approaches exist for predicting the effects of amino acid substitutions from protein sequence. These are often (incorrectly) used for judging disease predisposition from in...
