Islets of Langerhans are the name of a collective group of cells responsible for secreting insulin and glucagon. By producing and secreting these pancreatic hormones, it is vital for regulating glucose levels throughout the body. If the islets of Langerhans fail to function properly, blood glucose levels will elevate and could lead to diabetes.
