Extractable and leachables

Extractables and Leachables are terms used to describe chemical compounds based on how they interact with the containers in which they are stored or transported. Extractables define compounds that can be extracted from their container when exposed to a solvent. Leachables define compounds that leak, or "leach", into the drug from the container purely as a result of being in contact for a long period of time.
