A pandemic challenge - Implementing a COVID-19 Antibody test in record time!

During the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak in the UK, there was a great deal of uncertainty. Pathology and diagnostic services across the UK were having to quickly adapt and change how they operated. Often this meant responding to opposing objectives such as maintaining or increasing the level of service provided whilst having reduced staff on-site.

 

In May, Public Health England allocated specific laboratories within the UK with the task of undertaking SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing. Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust was one of the laboratories chosen to provide such testing.

 

In this webinar, Philip Craddock-Jones, lab manager at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, will describe the implementation and verification of a SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody test in record time. He will talk about how he and his team have successfully set up a new testing workflow within the region from blood sample collection to results reporting.

 

In the second part of the webinar, Cecilia Scarponi, Clinical Liaison at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, will give an overview of the different types of antibodies involved in the immune response against SARS-CoV-2 and review current applications of serological testing.
