Implementing a World-Class Clinical Pharmacogenomics Service

The Clinical Pharmacogenomics Service (CPS) at Boston Children’s Hospital works to make medications safer and more effective by incorporating patient’s genetic information when making decisions about medication choices. It is a unique service; one of only a small handful of centers in the US that apply genetics to determine variations in medication response to improve clinical care. The CPS represents a tangible step towards personalized medicine in which healthcare  intervention is focused on intervening before the problem evolves.
 
Boston Children’s Hospital has implemented preemptive pharmacogenomics testing since 2012 and patient volume averages 6 clinic visits per week with use of around 10 multi-gene panels per month.
This webinar will provide a general framework for logistical considerations relevant to operating and developing such a large-scale clinical pharmacogenomics service including testing logistics, integration into informatics systems, and stakeholder support. Cost avoidance projections, select case reports and real patient experiences will also be shared.
