Dr. Stefan Zimmermann will talk about the use of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) for fast and reliable typing of bacteria for outbreak investigations in infection control. He will focus on the use of the IR Biotyper® for serotyping of Streptococcus pneumoniae strains and the benefit of this rapid and easy-to-use technique for the clinical management of pneumococcus infections. General aspects of using the IR Biotyper® for other hygiene relevant strains will be discussed. Several innovative aspects of a new software solution (3.0) such as the use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for bacterial subtyping will be presented during the session.
Learning Objectives
- Strain typing with FT-IR technology
- Serotyping of Streptococcus pneumoniae by IR Biotyper®
- Usage of ANN for bacterial strain typing
