Time: 12:00pm (PST),  3:00pm (EST)
Abstract
Antimicrobial resistance is responsible for an estimated 700,000 deaths worldwide each year.1 By the year 2050, projections estimate up to 10 million deaths and $100 trillion in costs each year.1 Effective antimicrobial stewardship programs are critical in preventing increasing rates of resistance to antibiotics. These programs may lead to improved patient outcomes, and optimized resource allocations across the continuum of care.2 In this webinar, you will learn about how the microbiology lab plays an increasingly important role in antimicrobial stewardship.

Learning Objectives
  • Summarize why Stewardship is important
  • Discuss the core elements of stewardship and microbiology's role
  • Summarize the importance of rapid reporting and assistance by pharmacy with communication of microbiology results
  • Explain how rapid diagnostic methods that can be used to assist diagnosis / including MALDi and a timely performance of a susceptibility test to supply necessary MIC information (Phoenix).
