Procalcitonin (PCT) is a biomarker widely used to assess the risk of bacterial infection and to aid in antibiotic stewardship in patients with lower respiratory tract infections and sepsis. In this webinar Dr. Mike Broyles will walk you through how PCT tests are used to manage patients with suspected bacterial infections. You will also learn about the role for PCT testing to aid initiation and discontinuation of antibiotics for patients with clinical presentation of bacterial infection. Dr. Broyles will review the success his organization had implementing evidence-based guidelines for procalcitonin aided antibiotic stewardship.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss biochemistry and kinetics of PCT in bacterial infection
- Review the data supporting PCT-aided antibiotic stewardship in LRTI and sepsis
- Provide insight on how order sets, protocols, and laboratory reports help manage the ordering process to control test utilization
- Explore best practices for a successful PCT implementation leading to confident clinical adoption
Webinars will be available for unlimited on-demand viewing after live event.
