Abstract

Thyroid abnormalities affect a considerable portion of the population. Globally, there is a large population of people who have undiagnosed thyroid dysfunction or are at risk of developing it.

Despite an increase in thyroid disease awareness and the availability of sensitive laboratory assays for the measurement of thyroid hormones, instances of extreme thyroid dysfunction continue to occur.
