Cytotoxicity remains one of the major causes of drug withdrawal and there is an urgent need for reliable and time-saving assay workflows. Cells exposed to toxic compounds show a variety of phenotypes including the loss of membrane integrity, cell shrinkage and nuclear fragmentation. These are ideal effects to be analyzed using cell imaging in addition to conventional cytotoxicity assays.
