Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 1 million individuals contract a sexually transmitted infection (STI) every day. The most common STI pathogens are Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV). Urogenital infections due to these pathogens can lead to severe consequences in reproductive health and increase the risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV-1 while the extragenital CT and NG infections in the oropharynx and rectum in men and women can serve as a reservoir potentially resulting in future infections and may also lead to severe clinical complications.  Accurate and rapid diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is essential for timely administration of appropriate treatment and reducing the spread of the disease.   This webinar will discuss design and development of Alinity m STI* assay including performance characteristics of Alinity m STI* assay (CT/NG) with extragenital sample types.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the differences and similarities in clinical manifestation of CT, NG, TV and MG.
  • Learn about the design and development of the Alinity m STI* assay.
  • Learn about performance characteristics of the Alinity m STI* assay (CT/NG) with extragenital sample types.

*Alinity m STI assay is CE marked and is not commercially available in the U.S.

Webinars will be available for unlimited on-demand viewing after live event.
