Pathophysiology: is a medical discipline that focuses on the function and symptoms of diseased organs, generally for purposes of diagnosis and patient care. Pathophysiology differs slightly from pathology, which studies all aspects of disease, not just organic function. Taking a pathophysiology course is an important part of receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), as it is imperative for RNs who want to be successful on a clinical team.
Substantial evidence demonstrates that schizophrenia involves a dysregulated dopamine system, potentially driven by overactivity in the hippocampus. Postmortem studies of schizophrenia brains...
The main problem for insufficient cervical cancer screening globally (less than 20% women at risk) is outreach failure. Enabling POCs with modern IT/mobile technology and connecting them with...
Development of physiologically relevant cellular models, with strong translatability to human pathophysiology, is critical for identification and validation of novel therapeutic targets. Cell...
Second and third generations of PTH immunoassays currently available on the market demonstrate significant variability with up to 4.2 fold difference in measurements depending on the method u...
Pancreatic β cell replacement therapy is considered as a potential strategy to treat diabetes. To date, transplantation of pancreatic islets from cadavers is the most effective approach...
Anchored Protein Kinase-A (PKA) bound to A-Kinase Anchoring Protein (AKAP) mediates the effects of localized increases in cAMP in defined subcellular microdomains and retains the specificity...
The ongoing research and scientific debate on pathophysiology, classification, nomenclature and diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome illustrates the complexity of cellular membranes, their...
The introduction of targeted therapies into the clinical management of lung adenocarcinoma has had a massive impact on patient care. Multiple driver mutations are now druggable and treatments...
It has only been in the last 20 years that we, the scientific/medical community, have appreciated the role of the endogenous Cannabinoid system (ECS) in maintaining a healthy immune system an...
Biomedical research depends on the use of model systems to explore basic biology, probe disease mechanisms, and conduct drug discovery and development. However, results from such systems are...
Introduction:The cannulation of the cisterna magna in the rat is a valuable model for in-vivo sampling of cerebrospinal fluid for studying delivery of new drugs into the central nervous sys...
My talk shall encompass how the stem cell research field has evolved from embryonic stem cells to adult stem cells and currently induced pluripotent stem cells with special reference to the f...
In order to expand the treatment options of cancers driven by oncogenic RAS, new cell surface targets need to be identified and characterized. Here, we describe mass spectrometry based phenot...
Contractile non-muscle cells, including smooth muscle and myoepithelial cells, provide the mechanical forces required for tissue homeostasis in numerous organ systems. For example, smooth mus...

Epigenetics refers to the study of nuclear architecture and gene regulation. Epigenetic mechanisms govern many physiological processes such as cell differentiation, x-inactivation, and genomi...
Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder exhibiting both motor and behavioral impairment. Like most neuropsychiatric disorders, its pathophysiology has yet to be...
The idea of schizophrenia typically conjures up images of people who hear voices, see visions and have delusional beliefs. However, clinicians have long recognized cognitive dysfunction as on...
