Medicinal chemistry deals with the design, optimization and development of chemical compounds for use as drugs. It is inherently a multidisciplinary topic - beginning with the synthesis of potential drugs followed by studies investigating their interactions with biological targets to understand the medicinal effects of the drug, its metabolism and side-effects. Medicinal chemists are focused on drug discovery and development and are concerned with the isolation of medicinal agents found in plants, as well as the creation of new synthetic drug compounds.
There are currently 33 states and the District of Columbia that have legalized medical marijuana. The research supporting its medical use, however, lags behind current policy efforts. This ta...
Two projects looking at novel approaches to targeting inflammatory breast cancer will be presented. Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a unique, understudied, and most lethal subtype account...
The oncogenic transcription factor c-MYC (MYC) is deregulated, and often overexpressed, in more than 50% of cancers. MYC deregulation is associated with poor prognosis and aggressive disease,...
PacBio Sequencing simultaneously provides long sequence reads, high consensus accuracy, minimal sequence bias, and methylation detection. I will highlight new advances and updates on applying...
To date the anatomic extent of tumor (TNM-classification) has been by far the most important factors to predict the prognosis of cancer patients. However, this classification provides limited...
RNA sequencing unlocks the mysteries hidden in the transcriptome. Whether your goal is gene expression analysis, gene fusion analysis, SNP analysis or miRNA expression analysis, achieving hig...
High-throughput screening is widely useful in identifying genes and pathways that drive changes in cell behavior such as cell cycle regulation, metastasis, and drug resistance. Millipor...
Molecular analyses of cancer biology have tended to segregate between a focus on nucleic acids – DNA, RNA and their modifications – and a focus on proteins and protein function. P...
Understanding the immune repertoire is an important aspect of immuno-oncology research, which can be used to gather insights into the function and overall status of the immune system. We have...
The cannabis industry as a whole is under considerable scrutiny. Finger-pointing and blame regarding inaccurate product labels run rampant. Media outlets have often faulted the sk...
Analysis of pesticides in cannabis is essential to protect the public health, especially medical cannabis patients. Sensitive and selective measurement is required in order to provide confide...
Paul will discuss his journey from a cannabis sceptic several years ago to being a major advocate for the medical use of cannabis as a treatment option. He will discuss such areas as: C...
In today’s modern laboratory, resources are often stretched as laboratories struggle to manage multiple priorities, meet regulatory requirements, and contain costs. This is especially t...
Cannabis use, both recreational and as medicine is proliferating worldwide. It's reasonable to ask why people are using cannabis and who are appropriate candidates for cannabis therapy. T...
There is growing consumer and patient demand for products containing cannabidiol (CBD) and other constituents of the cannabis plant, due to their purported medicinal benefits for a myriad of...
G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) represent the single largest class of druggable targets in the human genome. Of the 390 or so druggable and non-olfactory human GPCRs there exist many whic...
