Messenger RNA (mRNA) transfers genetic information from DNA to the cytoplasm where it is translated into codons, amino acids, and eventually proteins. Techniques to detect and quantify mRNA, such as PCR and ssRNAseq, are prominent in many fields of scientific research as are techniques to evaluate protein, such as ELISA. Co-detection of mRNA allows evaluation of both the genes expressed within a cell and the proteins secreted by the cell.
