Clinical Trials: A clinical trial involves research participants. It follows a pre-defined plan or protocol to evaluate the effects of a medical or behavioral intervention on health outcomes. Clinical trials are done to determine whether new drugs or treatments are safe and effective. By taking part in clinical trials, participants not only play a more active role in their own health care, but they also can access experimental treatments and help others by contributing to medical research.
High-throughput screening is widely useful in identifying genes and pathways that drive changes in cell behavior such as cell cycle regulation, metastasis, and drug resistance. Millipor...
In prior work, we have pursued how tumor reactive monoclonal antibody (mAb), together with activators of innate immune cells, like NK cells, can augment antibody dependent cell-mediated cytot...
Molecular analyses of cancer biology have tended to segregate between a focus on nucleic acids – DNA, RNA and their modifications – and a focus on proteins and protein function. P...
Understanding the immune repertoire is an important aspect of immuno-oncology research, which can be used to gather insights into the function and overall status of the immune system. We have...

Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells are a promising source of personalized therapy. These cells can provide immune-compatible autologous replacement tissue for the treatment of potentially a...
Finding effective treatments for cancer is fundamentally a high-dimensional probabilistic planning, search, and optimization problem, characterized by thousands of molecular subty...
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis also known as inflammatory bowel diseases or IBD, are characterized by chronic, recurrent inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, which result...
Regulation of precision medicine is rapidly evolving. The pre-existing regulatory framework did not contemplate many of the products and technologies which are becoming available with p...

As the costs of genomic analysis decline it becomes possible to offer widescale population genomic analysis to screen for genetic disorders. The Alabama Genomic Health Initiative was es...
This session will look at the common issues that can impact quality in the coagulation laboratory and result outcomes. Implementing a good quality management system and being able to co...
Screening for Down syndrome began with the question "How old will you be when you deliver?". If the pregnant woman answered 35 years of age or older, she was offered amniocent...
Cannabidiol (CBD) has emerged as a promising anti-epileptic drug in otherwise treatment-resistant genetic epileptic disorders. However, the clinical trials have been limited by their use of C...
More than half of the states around the country have legalized marijuana laws that permit individuals to use marijuana for medical or recreational purposes. However, the possession and...
How does a low-level sensory representation rise into conscious awareness? What determines whether higher-order cortical areas have access to the representational content in sensory regions?...
Preterm birth (PTB) is the leading cause of infant mortality and morbidity worldwide. Both preterm labor and neonatal injuries have been linked to inflammation. Of all mediators of inflammati...
The field of melanoma has been transformed by the parallel development of effective immune and targeted therapies. There is now strong evidence of cross-talk between oncogenic signaling...
The path form biomarker discovery to conversion to a clinically useful companion diagnostic test presents many challenges. The talk will outline the regulatory requirements to developing a su...
This lecture introduces the evolving paradigm of Molecular Pathological Epidemiology (MPE) as simply as possible. Any given human disease represents fundamentally heterogeneous process,...
The translation gap in biomedical research can be attributed in part to differences in how outcomes are assessed in preclinical research and in the clinic. Reasons for these mismatches includ...
