In U.S., more than one-third of all available food goes uneaten through loss or waste. Public and private organizations are creating solutions to address food loss and waste throughout the food system – from farm to table.
On September 14, 2022, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. EDT, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will host the 2nd USDA Food Loss and Waste Innovation Fair, which will showcase some of the latest food loss and waste mitigation technologies, innovations, and programs developed by USDA, academic institutions, local governments, and businesses. This free, virtual event is perfect for businesses, nonprofits, researchers, and food sector leaders, and individuals who want to know about the latest developments in reducing food loss and waste.
Exhibitors in this year’s fair include USDA agencies conducting or funding food loss and waste programs or projects; businesses and universities that are researching or commercializing an innovation that received USDA funding; and local and municipal governments and their partners that have received USDA composting and food waste reduction grants.
Among business exhibitors in this year’s fair are U.S. Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champions, which are businesses and organizations that have committed to reducing food loss and waste in their own operations in the United States by 50 percent by the year 2030. The 2030 Champions is a joint initiative between USDA and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The virtual event will include presentations and over three dozen virtual booths. Participants are invited to text or video chat with representatives in real time. Attendees can also interact in a virtual networking lounge.
