Race has a significant impact on people's lives, and that is primarily due to perception. There is no genetic basis for race; there are not genes that determine what race an individual will be. However, we have been able to learn a lot more about where people and their ancestors come from through genetic sequencing.
National Geographic explores race a bit in this video, in which six strangers that share roughly the same ancestral composition get a chance to see how others like them look. Their genetic makeup is quite diverse, so it presents an intriguing look at how people with similar genetic backgrounds can share some of the same features, and in other instances, have entirely different characteristics.
