Lexus, a subsidiary of Toyota, has worked hard on achieving the impossible; a real-life hover board that takes no electricity to operate, and instead works using magnets, semiconductors, and liquid nitrogen.
The hover board has been receiving a lot of press since its initial unveiling, and understandably so, because people have wanted to defy gravity since the stone ages and we're just not figuring out how to use technology to our advantage.
It was originally unveiled in June with a teaser video, and another teaser video followed up in July showing it hovering in action, but today, we get to see the hover board in action in a new video, which shows off the process building up to the final product, such as the drawing board, the testing stages, and even being used by professional boarders.
There is just one catch to using it of course; since it's magnetically powered, you will have to be using it on a magnetic surface with an opposite magnetic attraction so that it will hover over the surface.
On the other hand, without the need for electricity, this means that in the right environment, it will last forever without having to be re-charged and will operate much more quietly.
What's awesome about this hover board is that unlike the hover board Marty McFly uses in the popular Back to the Future 2 science fiction movie, Lexus' hover board will work over water, as long as the proper magnet fittings are put under the surface to keep the board in the air.
Shown in this video, we can see the hard work that engineers put into building it, from fine-tuning the magnets so that the hovering would operate just right whether the board was loaded with weight or not, as well as crafting a beautiful board out of light-weight, but strong, bamboo wood.
I want one; don't you?
