Can we live in a world that completely eliminates side-effects from therapeutics? Well, scientists from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) have developed a novel technique that may do just that.
The techniques utilize a nanostructure fabrication device that can alter the chirality of drug molecules by controlling the path of a substrate rotation in a device. Through this process, you can eliminate the possible side-effects that can arise from a drug that have molecules with the incorrect chirality.

"Our success in manipulating molecular chirality through macroscopic engineering allows the convenient synthesis of drugs in single-enantiomer forms with only left- or right-handedness. Hence, it will help get rid of the adverse, sometimes fatal, side effects of many therapeutic drugs," said Dr. Jeffery Huang Zhifeng, Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at HKBU.
Findings were published in the international scientific journal Nature Chemistry and discusses how results can open doors to mass production of purer and inexpensive therapeutics.
The study proves that controlling molecular chirality improves drug safety.
